He?s pitched to Richard Branson. He?s got an ex-Apprentice star on board. He?s set up a business that?s preparing to take the world by storm. And he?s only 19. With the launch of the StartUp Loans scheme on 28th May, we spoke to young entrepreneur Jacob Hill, founder of The Lazy Camper.

Where did the idea for The Lazy Camper come from?
I went to my local supermarket the day before Leeds Festival to buy all my gear. I spent quite a lot of money and woke up the next day with my tent under water!
So I thought we must be able to offer a solution at a cheaper price. The Lazy Camper is a complete outdoors kit with everything you need in one bag, including a tent, sleeping bag and cooking stove.

Is it mainly aimed at festivalgoers?
This is our first year of trading so at the moment it?s just aimed at festivalgoers, but we?ll be looking at other markets: people who go fishing at the weekend, go on bike rallies or novice campers. We could market it as a family camping kit.

There are a lot of festivals around the world ? are you thinking of exporting your product?
The idea is to eventually export to Europe, America and Australia. We?d like to have a warehouse in other countries where someone runs a similar operation ? distributing domestically, rather than just sending one item overseas at a time.

How did you get the money to start The Lazy Camper?
I actually raised ?30,000 for the first 500 Lazy Campers. I put some of my student loan towards it but raised the majority from fellow students and family friends.

Have you been working with any festivals?
We have started sponsoring festivals. Global Gathering gave five Lazy Campers away as a prize on Facebook, which got 2,500 likes and 1,000 shares. This drummed up lots of interest on our Facebook page too, which was great.

What differentiates The Lazy Camper from its competitors?
There are a few similar products on the market, which I happily tell people about because we?ve managed to do something where we?re better ? we?ve got a higher quality product at a cheaper price of ?59.99.
We also think about the environmental impact of our product and encourage people to recycle and reuse. To prevent people throwing The Lazy Camper away after a festival, we?re going to offer them ?10 off their next purchase if they hand it in at a designated drop-off point.

Where do you source your products?
We source from China, the UK and France. We actually used DHL to bring samples over from China. Any sample I ship in, I use DHL because it?s the quickest and most affordable.
Sourcing internationally was scary. I was wondering: ?how do you know who to trust?? So I use Alibaba and their trusted suppliers.
I?m very thankful to Alibaba. I?ve found someone I trust in China and I speak to them on Skype all the time.

Is this your first venture into business?
When I was 14 I was selling sweets into schools. And then when I was about 16 I started organising music concerts for students in Huddersfield and Halifax.

Is anyone else involved in the business?
I started it up and got the ball rolling, but I?ve now taken on a business partner (Andy Bray). We have gained partnerships from other businesses such as Virgin Media Pioneers, The Scouts and Global Hand. All sorts of different charities and large businesses want to support us.

How do you motivate yourself?
Most people want to earn money I guess but that?s not my goal. I want to make something of myself. I like the idea that you can turn nothing into something.

How did you find yourself working with Claire Young?
I?m on an Enterprise Development course at University of Huddersfield. In September we watched Claire talk at the Royal Armouries, and I introduced myself.
Not long afterwards she was speaking at a place in Halifax and I went to meet her there. I asked if she would be interested in speaking at my launch party. She said yes and said she?d be happy to mentor us.

Can you tell us a bit more about your university course?
Enterprise Development is the idea of finding entrepreneurs and assessing a person?s level of entrepreneurialism. The course representative is Theo Paphitis.
We are encouraged to start a business by year three. I decided to start up in year one to give myself the best chance possible.

Have you had a lot of support through university?
Yes, it?s been really great. Particularly Business Mind, a business advice and support center. I managed to get my first bit of funding from them; they gave me ?400 to buy the logo, surveys and samples. That really got the ball rolling.

The Government recently announced the launch of StartUp Loans. ?
Yeah, I was part of that ? I?m Virgin Media Pioneer?s Yorkshire ambassador.
Instead of a student or accommodation loan, you get a business grant or loan. I think it?s amazing. I wish I?d had the opportunity.

Have you ever thought of going on a programme like Dragons? Den or The Apprentice?
Yes. I enter every competition I can, because I believe that the more opportunities you take, the more chance of success you have.
We recently came runners up in a Virgin Media Pioneers competition, where we went to Sir Richard Branson?s house and pitched our business to him and his business partners. It was an amazing experience.
I also came close to being selected to appear on the Junior Apprentice.

What would be your top tips for other young people who have a business idea?
Listen. Some advice will be terrible, some will be good, so listen to as many people as you can.
My biggest tip is to take every opportunity possible. Enter every competition and meet every person you can. You never know who?s going to see your product.

A Wes Anderson movie is a lot like Katy Perry, great to look at but painful to listen to. In this regard, "Moonrise Kingdom" is the ultimate Wes Anderson movie. Like the home of a spinster, it's meticulously maintained yet lacks human warmth. There are references to movies as disparate as "Shawshank Redemption" and "Eyes Wide Shut" but the story can best be described as a cross between "First Blood" and "The Blue Lagoon", Gilman and Hayward discovering their sexuality whilst hiding out in the local woods. There's an air of smugness about Anderson and the other members of the East Coast indie clique (Noah Baumbach, Sofia Coppola et al) that makes his work impenetrable for many, this reviewer included. The characters who inhabit his world are deeply unlikable, usually moapy middle class types suffering from first world problems. Every line of dialogue, coupled with the mannered delivery of an otherwise impressive cast, is cringeworthy in it's pretension. If you met anyone in real life who spoke like Anderson characters you'd go out of your way to avoid them. There's usually an element of chauvinism, his male characters are generally troubled intellectuals while the women are just troubled idiots. That's certainly the case with the two protagonists here, Gilman is smart way beyond his years while Hayward is a pretty but dumb girl who falls madly in love with him despite his coming across as a pretentious little git. I suspect Anderson was the victim of bullying in his schooldays, after all nobody likes a smartass, and this movie serves as a kind of revenge fantasy where he gets the girl and pummels his aggressors. Regular readers will be aware of how much of a bugbear the use of music in movies is with me. They're really the only two art forms which can complement one another yet while film can't enhance music, music can often enhance film. The use of Benjamin Britten lends this film a dignity it simply hasn't earned. Visually this movie is mind blowing, the intricately designed sets blend beautifully with the stunning New England locations. Cinematographer Robert Yeoman provides a masterclass in framing, anyone with an interest in photography needs to see this. There's no denying Anderson has talent, I just wish he didn't make us remove our shoes before entering his home.

MIAMI (AP) ? A big early Miami lead was wasted. Once the Heat took control again, they simply ran away from the Boston Celtics.
And the NBA finals are now three wins away for LeBron James and the Heat.
James scored 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Dwyane Wade scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the Heat beat the Celtics 93-79 on Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Shane Battier, playing in the conference finals for the first time, scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Heat, who wasted an early 11-point first-half lead before running away to break a halftime tie. Miami outrebounded the Celtics 48-33, and blocked 11 Boston shots.
It was those last two stats that had James lauding the night as a team effort.
"We get a lot of the press, we get a lot of the headlines," James said. "But our teammates, they do everything to help us win ball games."
Kevin Garnett scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Boston, which got 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists from Rajon Rondo and 12 points from Paul Pierce. Ray Allen shot just 1 for 7 from the floor for Boston, which was outscored by 10 in the first quarter and 11 in the third.
"On the road, you can't have two quarters of lulls," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said.
Game 2 is Wednesday night in Miami.
It's the third straight year the Heat and Celtics have met in the playoffs, the third straight year James has seen his postseason path go through Boston as well ? the first of those matchups coming in 2010, his final run with Cleveland.
Each of those came in the first or second rounds, not this close to the NBA finals.
And while both sides would say there's a long way to go in this series, Game 1 winners have a decided edge in any best-of-seven, the conference final being no exception. In the most recent 10 postseasons, teams with 1-0 leads in conference finals have advanced 15 out of 20 times. One of the five instances of a team rallying from a one-game deficit was last year, when Miami ousted Chicago in five games.
Last season's Miami-Boston series ended with James scoring the final 10 points of Game 5, and the start of this year's matchup had him putting on another offensive display.
He had 13 points in the first quarter ? two more than the entire Celtics roster ? and Miami ran out to a 21-11 lead after the opening period. Garnett made three of his four shots in the quarter, while everyone else in Boston green was 2 for 16 from the floor.
"They came to play," Rivers said. "I mean Miami."
The 11 points matched the lowest output by any team in the opening quarter this postseason. The other team to manage that few was San Antonio, which then dropped 32 on the Los Angeles Clippers in the second quarter of their game on May 19.
The Celtics' response was even better.
Boston scored 35 in the second quarter, erasing what was an 11-point deficit early in the period by scoring 27 points in the final 8:46 of the half to pull into a 46-all tie. Rondo, Garnett and Pierce combined to score 23 points in the quarter, looking absolutely vintage, near-perfect offensive execution getting to Miami time and time again. And the Celtics' comeback happened even while they got hit with three technical fouls in the second quarter, plus Allen missing four first-half free throws ? matching his career-worst for an entire game.
In the end, it went down as merely a one-quarter lapse for Miami.
Another technical foul, this one on Rondo, came in the third quarter, likely born from frustration as the Heat started to roll again.
With the game tied at 50, Rondo missed three shots in a 31-second span early in the third, the last of those getting blocked by Battier ? who hit a 3-pointer 11 seconds later. It started a 9-2 Miami burst, including a touchdown pass from Wade to James ? Wade grabbed the rebound of a miss by Pierce, spun and delivered a 90-foot pass to the reigning MVP ? for an easy score.
Miami led by as many as 13 late in the third, before taking a 72-61 lead into the fourth. James scored 10 more in the third, Boston went cold again shooting just 27 percent in the period, and Wade's left-handed bullet pass into the lane set up Joel Anthony for a dunk that pushed the Heat lead to 15 with 10:13 remaining.
"We'll go back and see what we can do better," Rivers said. "And we'll fix it."

Between 2004 and 2007, real estate investors, hungry for break-even or positive cash flow rental properties, purchased income property out of state. California investors bought houses in Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma. Florida investors purchased houses in Louisiana. Texas investors purchased in Las Vegas. Some these investors made millions of dollars because of the appreciation in hot markets.
On the other hand, many beginning investors lost their hard-earned investment capital or only made a meager profit because they failed to do their homework on the out of state area?s real estate market and customs.
If you ?re thinking about buying investment properties in a different state than you?re accustomed to, beware of these five surprises.
Surprise # 1 ? ?These (extra) costs are the norm in this state!
Besides extra closing costs like pricey surveys, common in Florida but rare in California, other surprise costs included higher transfer fees and taxes. Property taxes in Florida cost much more for investors in Florida than in California. On the other side of the country, out of state investors were shocked by California?s state tax held in escrow: 3.8% of the property?s SALE?S price, no matter the actual profit made. In other words, an investor who made a quick profit of $20,000 on a fast flip could have more than the profit held until the next year?s income tax filing.
Surprise # 2 ? ?You can?t lease this property!
New home developers and many Homeowners? Associations (HOA)s prohibit property owners from leasing their properties. Some of these restrictions got passed, without the investor being notified, during the property purchase phase. You must read the fine print to see if any clauses prevent the rental of the property. Home builders, to keep the value of the neighborhood up, added restrictions requiring the purchaser to occupy the home as a primary or secondary residence.
Surprise # 3 ? ?This house will only rent for $750 per month, not $1200!
This was one of the top mistakes made by investor. Large real estate investing groups, selling out of state properties to local investors, inflated the rental income. Because so many houses were purchased in a limited area by investors, a rental glut lowered expected income. This created hardships for investors who suddenly had to pay out hundreds of dollars a month instead of reaping promised profits.
Surprise # 4 ? ?You can?t sell this house, now!
Some investors who couldn?t rent the out of state property decided to sell because the values did rise significantly while the house was built or during the purchase time. However, many investors were stunned when they were told they couldn?t sell the property within the first year after purchase. Restrictions prohibiting real estate investors from quick-turning their properties is a trend that is growing increasingly popular with some developers.
Surprise # 5 ? ?Houses don?t appreciate 30% per year here!
Perhaps you?ve attended or been invited to a high-power investment seminar that promotes out of state real estate investing. Some of these ?investor clubs? really are promoters who receive kick-backs in real estate commissions, property management fees, mortgage loan fees, and even fire insurance premiums. They tell stories of huge appreciation gains, which may have been true. However, not all areas enjoy significant appreciation?year after year.
Don?t make the costly mistake of not fully researching the complete market customs and restrictions in the area where you?re thinking about investing. If you can?t afford to go to check out the area in person, choose another area that you can visit.
