April is National Financial Literacy Month, and Cambridge Credit Counseling is marking the event by announcing new programs, educational materials, and ongoing support to financially distressed consumers.? Financial experts agree that one of the keys to a successful future is an understanding of basic financial issues, including how to set realistic goals and create a plan to achieve them.? Unfortunately, many Americans are uninformed about the options and strategies they can use to manage their money more effectively and alleviate debt. That lack of knowledge certainly played a role in the recent economic downturn.
?Since late 2007, it has become clear that everyone needs to establish a financial plan and make informed financial decisions, particularly if they?re also trying to overcome student loan and credit card debt,? noted Cambridge president and CEO, Christopher Viale. ?As a non-profit,Cambridge is committed to supporting consumers, and we?re looking forward to introducing a number of exciting programs throughout Financial Literacy Month, and the rest of the year.?
In keeping with its educational mission, Cambridge works diligently to empower the public. In 2011 alone,Cambridge:
- Presented 555 free financial education seminars to 6,296 members of our community
- Released 40 Your Money 2.0 educational videos on the agency?s YouTube channel, which received 32,768 views
- Provided free educational content on its website. 43,592 pieces were downloaded, including our latest Learn Now or Pay Later financial guides for young people and adults
- Conducted a total of 29,537 credit counseling sessions
